About the name

The name of the organisation - "42 collective" - is a combination of two things. First, is the reference to the famous sci-fi comedy novel by Douglas Adams entitled The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy. In this book, the answer to the meaning of life is discovered to be 42, despite the precise question remaining unknown. 42 is also the latitude that runs through the centre of New Zealand, near the capital city, Wellington - the part of the world where we live and from where we want to make change. Second, is our reference to 'collective' which emphasises interdependence: that we live in the world with other people and other living things. We are all individuals seeking meaningful lives within a collective whole - this is the "42 collective".
