Projects

Our flagship project at present is the Wellington Conscious Consumers Cafe project.

Good information on the environmental and social aspects of products and services can be hard for consumers to find. Similarly, small businesses such as cafes need support to make it easier for them to reduce the environmental and social impacts of their practices. This project therefore aims to:

  • Encourage and support Wellington cafes to adopt more environmentally and socially conscious business practices
  • Empower consumers to make more informed purchasing choices.

The project promotes nine practices which we believe make good business sense, respect people and the environment and reflect current 'conscious' consumer preferences. These practices are:

The project has developed a guide for cafes which details the value in and how to adopt each of these practices. Cafes are able to earn a badge for each practice, which is displayed to consumers instore. Once the project has been officially launched (currently planned for late May 2010), we will also go live on a dedicated project website, www.consciousconsumers.org.nz

We'll be keeping 42collective members posted on how to be involved in this exciting project as we head towards our launch date. Watch this space!
